The University Research Board is in the upper second stratum of the organogram of the research administration in the University.

It is the Policy-making body for research in the University. It is a Board of the Senate. The Vice-Chancellor / Chairman of the Senate is the Chairman of the Board. Its functions are to:
- articulate the policy for research for the University.
- determine research priorities in line with the research focus and agenda of the University.
- determine the minimum and maximum amoun of grant for each research proposal from year to year.
- manage the University's Research Trust Fund (RTF).
- approve research grant applications.
- review the research thrust, focus and content of research in the University periodically to reflect the overall objectives of the University in a dynamic society.
