POSTGRADUATE SEMINAR HELD IN CAERSE

Postgraduate Seminar

The Agricultural Economics Department held a Postgraduate Seminar on Tuesday, 24th August, 2010. The Seminar featured three MSc students. Two of them would specialize in Agricultural Development and Policy, while the third student intends to specialize in Agricultural Marketing.

Ufomadu, Akunna Lilian, proposed he thesis on Impact of Commercialization on the Welfare of Arable Crop Farm Households in Abia State, under the supervision of Dr. J. C. Nwaru while Ugwunali Emeka J., brought up a proposal on Impact of Agricultural Policies on Cocoa Exports in Nigeria, under the supervision of Prof. A. C. Nwosu. Iyede, Evelyn O., made a proposal on the Effect of Cocoa Cooperative Marketing on the Welfare of Members in Abia State, Nigeria.

Some of those who participated in the exercise were Professor C. E. Onyenweaku and Professor A. C. Nwosu. The exercise was quite fruitful.

Similarly, the Department of Rural Sociliology and Extension held a Postgraduate Seminar on Tuesday 31st August, 2010. Three postgraduate students were involved.

Egwu, Nkechinyere Joy for specialization in Agricultural Extension Communication under the supervision of Dr. Ike Nwachukwu and assisted by Dr. O. O. Ekumankama. She proposed her Ph.D Dissertation on 'Impact Assessment of National Special Programme for Food Security (NSPFS) in Abia State, Nigeria'. Nwosu Chukwuemeka Temple, under the supervision of Dr. Ray Unamma and Dr. O. O. Ekumankama made his presentation on Factors Influencing Women's Adoption of Labour Saving Agricultural Technologies in Abia State'.

Udoh, Linus Akpan on the other hand proposed his MSc research work on 'Evaluation of Avian Influenza Control and Awareness Creation among Extension Agents and Poultry Farmers in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria', under the supervision of Dr. G. C. Onuekwusi.

The seminar was attended by academics in the department as well as many others from sister departments such as Prof. C. E. Onyenweaku, Dr. U. A. U. Onyedinama, Dr. N. Ibiam, Dr. O. R. Iheke, Mr. Obasi-Igwe and Mr. C. E. Njokuoma. Many of the Postgraduate students were also in attendance.
