MOUAU-INEC applauds VC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commended Prof. Hilary O. Edeoga, Vice-Chancellor, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike on his role in the recently concluded 2011 general elections.

In a letter of appreciation endorsed by the Chairman, Prof. Attahiru M. Jega, the Commission asserted that it is on record that his exemplary role as Collation Officer and Returning Officer for the Presidential and Governorship elections respectively, contributed in the Commission's ability to have conducted one of the freest and fairest elections in the country in recent times.

As part of week-long activities marking the commemoration of the creation of Abia state twenty years ago from the old Imo state, a gala-nite was held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia. Defying the heavy downpour, precisely on 8th September, 2011, crème d'la crème in Abia State and beyond gathered to celebrate some notable Abians who have distinguished themselves both in character and learning.

1.       Zoology Dept, MOUAU, gets new name

This is to inform students and the entire university community that the Senate at its 138th regular meeting held on 7th September, 2011 approved the renaming of MOUAU's Zoology programme. The programme will now be known as “Department of Zoology and Environmental Biology”.

The 2010/2011 final year forum of the Nigeria Federation of Catholic Students (NFCS), MOUAU on the 16th of August paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hilary Edeoga extolling his leadership style which they said have brought several good things to the university. Speaking in an address, the Forum Co-ordinator, Mr. Andrew Duru noted that Prof. Edeoga since his assumption of office in March 2011, has brought much vibrancy and life into the fabrics of the University, especially in some of his appointments as well as giving students the rare opportunity to air their views.

MOUAU-ATLAS, Dr. P. C. Ngoka - International Conference

The seventh Regional (Africa) Conference of the Association for Tourism and Leisure Education (ATLAS) with the theme “Sustainable Tourism and Environmental Education: A natural link” took place in Makerere University, Kampala Uganda from 6th – 8th June, 2011.

Dr. P. C. Ngoka of the Department of Home Economics/Hotel Management participated in the conference and delivered a paper entitled “Tourism potentials of Nigerian National Parks by Ecological Setting: The challenges of Environmental Education and Sustainability”.

It was a memorable evening on campus on Thursday 25th August, 2011 as the executive and members of the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS), MOUAU chapter rolled out their drums in their characteristic cultural way to celebrate the sterling qualities of the vice-chancellor on the fresh air his administration has breathed into the life of the university.

In realization of one of the visions of the Prof. Edeoga – led administration in MOUAU, the erstwhile moribund poultry unit has been recently revived with over one thousand birds in the last two months at the instance of the Vice Chancellor. As at press time, these birds have fully matured while their sales have begun in ernest.

Senate approves Work-Aid Scheme for 26 students

As part of its decisions during the 138th regular meeting, the Senate approved that twenty-six students who met the requirements be engaged in the University’s work-aid scheme. It also directed that the students be properly supervised to realize the goals of the scheme.
