MOUAU VC - Prof Edeoga

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hilary Edeoga has assured the students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike that policies and programmes of his administration are targeted at alleviating the plight of students, as the future of this nation belongs to them.

Prof. Edeoga who stated this during his maiden meeting with all the undergraduate students, disclosed that he is passionate about issues that affect students adding that they (students) made him what he is today.

He reassured them that following Governing Council’s approval, hostels are to be built to address accommodation problem facing them while generating sets will soon be procured for all colleges to assist those who run practicals.

2 Patrol Vans procured to boost security on campus

The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike Management as part of its efforts, to address some challenges facing security in the university recently procured two brand new Hilux patrol vans equipped with the-state-of-the- art gadgets to boost security on campus.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Hilary Edeoga disclosed that this is the first step towards equipping the Security Unit in the MOUAU to enable them perform optimally, adding that more things are still in the offing for them.

4 MOUAU Students bag SPDC Scholarship

Four students of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike have won the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria limited (SPDC) joint venture university scholarship for the 2009/2010 session.

The award which is jointly offered on behalf of the NNPC/Shell/TEPN/Agip Joint Venture is valued at Seventy-Five thousand naira (N75,000.00) per session, while the scholarship is for four years.

It is on record that the SPDC Joint Venture University scholarship is part of its educational development programme aimed at encouraging academic excellence.

The Senate at its 137th regular meeting held on 27th July, 2011 has directed that any staff of the University conducting research must register the research with the Directorate of Research and Development (R&D) for effective monitoring.

A release to this effect directs all academic staff to take note of this and comply accordingly. Meanwhile, the Senate has approved Dr. P. N. Okafor of the Department of Biochemistry and Prof. D. O. Asawalam of the Department of Soil Sciences, as Associate Editor and Editor respectively of the Journal of Sustainable Agriculture and Biotechnology.

MOUAU Management to Identify with aspirations of Rotary Club

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hilary Edeoga has expressed the willingness of the university administration under his leadership to identify with the aspirations of the Rotary Club of Umudike Central.

Speaking when some of the executive and members of the club paid him a courtesy call, Prof. Edeoga disclosed that his values about life resolves around helping people and putting similes on people’s faces. He reiterated that leaders in any sphere of life should put others first and self last in order to live exemplary lives.

Mr. Princewill Chukwudi Ogbonna of the College of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (CNREM), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike attended the 5th International Congress on Chemistry and Environment (ICCE-2011) at Glory Beach Resort, Port Dickson Semblang, Malaysia from 25th - 29th May, 2011.

Report on the National Campus Network Design Workshop held in OAU, Ile-Ife

The Nigerian ICT Forum of Partnership Institutions in collaboration with the Network Startup Resource center, University of Oregon, USA, recently organized a five-day intensive ICT training on Campus Network Design hosted by the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, for all Federal Universities and Inter-University centres. One of the participants included Mr. Sunny Eyeh of the Directorate of Information and Communications Technology, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

This is to inform the general public and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in particular that former Dr. Gloria Daniel a resident Veterinary Officer in the College of Veterinary Medicine is now to be known and addressed as, Dr. (Mrs.) Daniel Igwe Gloria.

All former documents bearing her former name remain valid, while the general public and the University Community should take note of this change.
