Post-Graduate School (PGS)

The Postgraduate School was established in 1997 with the philosophy of contributing to self-sufficiency in food and   fibre production in Nigeria through teaching, research and extension.

The Postgraduate School, has as its goal to achieve excellence in manpower training to meet the needs of Nigerian Universities in agriculture and related areas, industries, Ministries and Parastatals and also of international organizations such as the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). The School works towards the transformation of agriculture in Nigeria through capacity-building in different fields of endeavour. In consonance with the mission of the University, the Postgraduate School aims at serving the Nigerian populace and the world at large through education, manpower development and quality research for the development of technologies that will overcome major constraints in agricultural production.

Roughly half of our graduate students study part-time and follow programmes linked to their professional work.

The Postgraduate School runs courses in eighteen areas leading to the award of the Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD) as well as M. Sc and PhD degrees. The areas include:

  • Agricultural Economics,
  • Rural Sociology and Extension,
  • Animal Production and Management,
  • Animal Breeding and Physiology,
  • Animal Nutrition and Forage Science,
  • Biochemistry,

  • Plant Health Management.
