College of Crop and Soil Sciences (CCSS)

The College of Crop and Soil Sciences is made up of three departments offering the B. Agriculture     degree in the following areas:

  1. Agronomy.
  2. Plant Health Management.
  3. Soil Science and Agroclimatology.

The philosophy and general objectives of the College are to help achieve the aim of "transforming agriculture in Nigeria" and beyond through research and training as well as the economic exploitation, improvement and conservation of naturally endowed crop resources of Nigeria.

The vision of the College is to train agriculturists and develop crop production technologies for sustainable food and fibre production. The objectives of the College are to:

  1. Train students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels equipped with modern crop production, protection and soil management techniques.
  2. Train low and medium level manpower in the areas of crop production, protection and soil management.
  3. Train farmers in improved crop production techniques.
  4. Conduct research into the areas of arable, vegetable, plantation and forage crops production.
  5. Conduct research on endangered and indigenous crop species.
  6. Conduct research in soil fertility and fertilizer management.
  7. Conduct research into integrated pest management techniques, biotechnology and pesticides management.
  8. Provide improved seeds/planting materials to farmers.
  9. Provide consultancy services in the areas of crop production, soil management and pest and disease control.
